MOBILE, Ala. - The United States Coast Guard, Marine Police and Mobile Fire Rescue are still on the scene of a Marina Fire off of Dauphin Island Parkway's Club House Road. The blaze happened early Wednesday morning.

Firefighters got the call around 1:15 a.m. When they arrived, they found two boats fully engulfed. Steve Huffman with Mobile Fire Rescue says the fire burned through the mooring line on one boat and it floated to the other side of the dock where it scorched at least two other boats. Both burning boats sank in the basin.

Huffman says investigators believe the fire started on the boat named “Katie’s Dream.”

One boat owner came down to survey the damage, and was relieved to find it wasn't his boat.

"Yes, very happy to see my boat wasn't damaged but I don't know how I am going to get it out," said the boat owner, who didn't want to be identified or go on camera.

The smell of fuel was strong in the air and crews were on scene trying to determine the impact of the oil in the water.

Mobile Fire-Rescue’s Hazmat Team and the Coast Guard Strike Team were called out to assess the damage. They will determine how much fuel was spilled into the water and what kind of clen-up needs to be done.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Damage is estimated at more than $1 million.
