CITRONELLE, Ala. (WALA) - A dozen agencies responded to a forest fire in Mobile County on Saturday, March 16. The flames burned in the woods near Citronelle, in the area of Tweed Welch Road.

Lt. Andrew Byrd with the Calcedeaver Volunteer Fire Department served as the incident commander fighting the fire.

He said when he noticed the flames threatening nearby homes, he had to call in more crews to help.

“I contacted my mutual aid from Washington County, which was about five departments, and about five departments from Mobile County. Once we got here, we began initial attack along with the Alabama Forestry Commission to get an actual plow line around here; but mostly, we've been protecting residences, which is our main priority, “ Byrd said.

As of 7 p.m., he said the lines were plowed and the fire was contained.
