Alba Middle School employee abruptly fired

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - Mobile County Public School System Interim Superintendent Martha Peek said legally she cannot talk about the allegations against a substitute custodian at Alba Middle School, but she can confirm he was let go.

"A situation came to the attention of the principal; she handled it effectively and efficiently and took care of the problem immediately. There was no interruption in the schedule at the school," Peek said.

Peek said the principal was able to take such quick action because the employee was a substitute. This all came to light after local law enforcement received complaints about the employee.

"There were complaints made to us and the sheriff's office, and both agencies did an investigation. As a result, at this time there are no criminal charges," said Captain Darryl Wilson with Bayou La Batre Police.

Wilson said both the Mobile County Sheriff's Office and Bayou Police interviewed the employee.

"There was some inappropriate comments made to students. But at this time, the investigation revealed there was no sexual contact between the employee and other students," Wilson said.

Wilson said the investigation is not closed, and he is in contact with the Alba Middle School principal.
