Alleged kidnapping under investigation

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - The Mobile County Sheriff's Office is waiting for more surveillance video from Mississippi after police said two Mobile women kidnapped two children. Deputies have already received some images from one department store. 

"It's the biggest lie been told," said the mother of Kristina Price.

Price's mother said her daughter is innocent. Price and Erica Rudolph are accused of taking two children from the daycare where Price works, and going to Mississippi to allegedly shoplift. Lt. Paul Burch said the value of the merchandise is more than $700.

"One of the individuals has a fairly extensive history for theft-related crimes and has admitted that that's what she does often is shoplift," said Burch.

What is still unclear to deputies is why the children were taken. FOX10 News spoke with a parent of one of the children by phone, who said she has never had a problem before and was shocked.

"One of the mom's showed up yesterday and a couple of the grandparents, and they were livid. They could not believe someone had taken their child away from a daycare without their permission, and even worse, to facilitate a crime," Burch said.

Price's mom maintained her daughter’s innocence.

"The sheriff's office is going to get sued. Thank you very much," she said to FOX10.

The sheriff’s office said they are working with the district attorney’s office in the case.

"In talking with the district attorney's office, they said there was probable cause for second-degree kidnapping," Burch said.

Both Price and Rudolph are out of jail on bond.
