MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - The Mobile Fire-Rescue department said a fire at an apartment complex on Saturday caused about $10,000 in damage.

The family who lived in the upstairs unit at Barrington Apartments on Cottage Hill Road apparently left the dryer on in the apartment when they left.

Firefighters said 25 minutes later, they recieved word that someone saw light smoke coming from the apartment. The smoke, which was coming from behind the clothes dryer, was heavy when firefighters arrived, but they were able to extinguish it without incident.

The exact cause is still under investigation, but MFRD said all indications are that it was accidental.

The fire was confined to the apartment it started in and damage consisted primarily of smoke damage. There was some water damage to the apartments below as well.
