Atty: Hopeful no federal gun charges for Gravine Island shooting

BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala. (WALA) - The attorney for one of the adults on Gravine Island said he is hopeful there will not be any federal charges for his client, William Hearn.

Hearn has not been charged in connection to Summer Moody's death, but the Baldwin County Sheriff's Office said Hearn had a rifle and fired a warning shot that fateful night on island. 

Hearn is a convicted felon and that would ordinarily make it illegal for him to have a gun. 

FOX10 wanted to find out if Hearn is facing any federal charges.

The U.S Attorney's Office declined to comment.

Hearn's attorney Thomas Dasinger said he hasn't heard from the U.S Attorney's office, and he hopes it stays that way.

"We are always concerned, but I am hopeful that will never happen," said Dasinger.

Dasinger said his client is a family man, and he's settling back into everyday life.

"He’s trying to settle back into normal life. Working full time, he always has and hoping things stay that way," said Dasinger.

At last check, the three teens that were with Moody are still in Baldwin County Jail.

The Baldwin County District Attorney's Office said the burglary charges stemming from the Gravine Island incident  are going to a grand jury.

Hearn's attorney said if the teens go to trial, Hearn plans to give his testimony.
