PRICHARD, Ala. (WALA) - The Baker HiQ team earned a bye to the championship match of the 2013 academic contest, guaranteeing the school at least $1,000 for use in scholastic programs.
Baker had the highest cumulative point total in all three of its contests in the regular season of competition, earning its way to the championship at the Renaissance Riverview Plaza Hotel in downtown Mobile. The winner earns $2,000 for its school. The second place school receives $1,500 while third place earns $1,000.
A semi-final series of matches will take place to determine the two teams that will meet Baker in the championship. The teams which placed second through seventh in the field of 15 teams will compete in the semi-finals.
The first semi-final is Thursday, February 28 at Alba Middle School. It will feature teams from Bryant, Davidson and Mary G. Montgomery.
The second semi-final is Tuesday, March 5 at McGill-Toolen Catholic High School. Teams from McGill, Murphy and St. Luke's will compete.
The winners of the semi-finals will compete against Baker.
