Bankhead Tunnel closing for maintenance

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - Commuters get ready to change your route. The Bankhead Tunnel is shutting down Friday night at 9 p.m. for ten days.

The tunnel will be closed for routine maintenance through Monday, October 1 at 5 a.m.

The Alabama Department of Transportation advises you to map out an alternate route during the closure.

For those who don't enjoy sitting in traffic, the Downtown Mobile Alliance suggests you take your time and enjoy downtown. Most shops are open until 6 p.m., and there are a variety of restaurants to choose from. You can also catch a movie at the Crescent Theatre. For a list of downtown businesses, click here .
