Bay Area Food Bank wins $100,000

MOBILE, Alabama (WALA) - The TODAY Show announced the Bay Area Food Bank as the $100,000 grant winner of the "What Do You Care About TODAY?" contest.

Bay Area Food Bank will put the $100,000 gift toward its mobile pantry and child nutrition programs.

The grant is funded through the Pepsi Refresh Project.

Bay Area Food Bank serves a 24-county area spanning 20,000 square miles in south Mississippi, south Alabama and the panhandle of Florida. In 2009, the food bank distributed nearly 12 million pounds of food to more than 550 member agencies throughout its service area. Bay Area Food Bank also manages multiple programs, including Child Nutrition, Disaster Relief, Emergency Response Pantry, Mobile Pantry, Rural Delivery, and Senior Nutrition.
