BAYOU LA BATRE, Ala. (WALA) - Tropical Storm Debby was not a factor for area beach goers, who welcomed the wind as a way to beat the heat.
The only sign of worrisome weather in Bayou La Batre was a number of shrimp boats docked during shrimping season on a clear but windy Monday afternoon.
Other than that, people in Southern Mobile County seem to be enjoying the respite from the summer heat. That includes Eugene Leverett of Mobile.
"I think it is. The wind is blowing and it is not too hot. And we catching a fish here and there you can't beat that," Leverett said.
On Dauphin Island, the Mobile Bay Ferry sat moored because of the weather. Although it's sunny, the high winds can make for rocky waters. Down a bit to the west, plenty of people were soaking up the sun and surf.
"We were here yesterday and it was very rough. It is very pleasant and we are enjoying it a lot," said Steve Capps. "Very pleasant on the beach, but it is hot in town."
Capps and his wife were visiting from Knoxville, Tennessee.
Another family from Tennessee was also thankful Debby wasn't a downer for their vacation.
The family's matron, Brittney, kept tabs on the storm before heading down to the beach.
"I watched from home thought our whole week was ruined," she said. "Yes, it feels perfect out here. I would rather it be like this than any normal day."
