MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - Wednesday night won't be the first time at the podium for either presidential candidate, but it will be the first time they face each other.
Massachusets Governor Mitt Romney and President Barack Obama square off in their first debate in Denver at 8 p.m. CT. The debate will be about an-hour-and-a-half in length, and the topic will be domestic policy.
The Mile High City will be the epicenter of American politics tonight as Obama debates Romney on issues like the economy, healthcare, and the role of government.
President Obama said, "What I am most concerned about is having a serious discussion about what we need to do to keep the country growing and restore security for hardworking Americans."
Romney said, "Do you want four more years of 20 million people struggling to find a job?"
Organizers say the economy will cover a majority of the debate.
Peter Eyre with the Committee on Presidential Debates said, "So, what's different about the format is that we are dividing the hour-and-a-half debate into six discussion segments...we think that those extended discussion periods will help the viewers around the world really get a sense of the candidates' views on the key issues."
Obama advisors say tonight's debate will pressure the challenger.
Obama National Co-Chair William M. Daley said, "I think the debate's going to be interesting and they're going to have to back up their statements. I think they'll be held to account for more than they've been held to account for as far as the facts and the details."
Senior Romney advisor Jim Talent said, "Governor Romney is probably a little bit the underdog but I think he's going to be ready. He's going to be ready on the issues which is really what this election's about."
The viewers will see a better picture of both candidates starting on Wednesday night and you can get the picture here Fox10tv.com and on FOX10.
There will also be two more presidential debates this month. The next one will take place on Oct. 16.
