Carnival, Port Authority update on ship

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - Carnival said in a press conference Thursday morning that it was not feasible to fly Triumph passengers out of Mobile, which is why they chose New Orleans. They did say, however, that their crew will stay in hotels in Mobile.

Carnival officials also said there has been one reported illness from a passenger who had a pre-existing condition that required dialysis. They said that passenger was transferred to the Carnival Elation and taken to a hospital.

Alabama Port Authority said the Triumph is traveling at less than 4 knots. Jimmy Lyons with Port Authority said an incoming tide is a plus for the ship, but there is a north wind that will be coming in that may slow it down.

They said as of 10:30 a.m., they expect it to be a 10-hour trip to make it to the terminal.

Lyons said the ship will dock at the terminal and passengers will disembark even if it's after dark.
