MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - Keep Mobile Beautiful announced details surrounding its Christmas Tree Recycling program on Tuesday.

They said the trees, which will be ground into mulch to be reused by gardeners, will be accepted now through January 9.

Keep Mobile Beautiful hopes that their way will replace the normal tradition of putting Christmas trees on the curb to be taken to landfills.

The group asks that recyclers remove all lights, ornaments, tinsel, garland, stands and plastic bags.

Trees can be dropped off at recycling stations at anytime, but volunteers will be on hand from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Dec. 29-30 and Jan. 5-6 to assist with unloading.

Flocked trees are not accepted. Vendors who have leftover trees can call Keep Mobile Beautiful at 251-208-6029 for information about disposing of them.
