MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - The Mobile city council has authorized a contract with the Mobile Sports Hall of Fame in the amount of $50,000. President Reggie Copeland called the money an investment that will garner a a favorable return.

The vote was five to two, with Gina Gregory and Bess Rich voting against the expenditure.

The vote came on the same day Executive Director of Finance Barbara Malkove gave her budget report.

Malkove told council members by the end of February her office will have a timeline of cuts that will be made because of budget shortfall.

Malkove said the sales tax generated in January 2012 was more than expected, but still down from the previous year.
