MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - There are only two weeks left for you to Bark For Your Park.

Mobile City Council members were at PetSmart along Airport Blvd, Saturday to help get the word out.

They said supporters didn't realize you could vote once a day from various email accounts.

The city is fifth out of 15 cities in the national competition which is offering a $100,000 grand prize toward a new dog park.

"For a city our size we definitely need a dog park. There are alot of people that come to parks but they have to keep their dogs on a leash," said District 6 Councilwoman Bess Rich.

Supporters say time is running out and they need help moving from fifth place to first.

"It just helps Mobile grow and it helps others understand that Mobile is a forward thinking city," said supporter, Nick Matranga.

"It's a very dog friendly city, it's a very warm city and people spend a lot of time outdoors," said supporter, Joanne Luterman.

The city has already set aside four acres in the Medal of Honor Park for a new dog park.
Officials say it will not disrupt the nature trails or take away from the scenery.

City officials are urging the public to vote at least once a day and forward it to friends and family.

"We are close to getting it and it is a private company who is sponsoring this money and this dog park even for Mobile will be all private dollars. The city is not using any government money," said Councilwoman Rich.
