MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - Mobile City Council members may be moving closer to a recommendation concerning an open container ordinance within the downtown area.

Council member William Carroll is sponsoring an ordinance that would create two entertainment districts in Downtown Mobile.

In the districts, people would be able to buy an alcoholic drink from a bar or restaurant and take it outside on the sidewalk. There are some restrictions on the number of drinks per person and the size of the drinks.

The Council’s Public Safety Committee is scheduled to meet Tuesday to discuss the ordinance and make a recommendation to the council.

The full council is scheduled to vote on the ordinance on March 5.
