MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - The Josephine Allen Boys and Girls Club is in the heart of the Happy Hills Community. When the area makes the news the reports are generally not happy.

Last month two teenagers were shot on a street corner. They were near a car that been stolen during a carjacking a week earlier.

Director Bradley Craig said the Boys and Girls Club's mission is to teach the children an alternative to violence.

"If we can save one we're grateful. If we can save them all we're grateful," he said.

Saturday the club served up fried fish and music along with an important message.

"We're trying to keep the violence down in our neighborhood, and let the kids know everything ain't just about violence."

DJ Eddie Mose was raised in the Happy Hills Community, and he has many nieces and nephews who come here.

"It's about structure, because a lot of kids don't have anything to do when they come home from school. So these activities here in the gym give them something to do," said Mose

Mose said any neighborhood can get a bad reputation, but that doesn't have to affect how the children turn out.
