MOBILE, ala. (WALA) - Mobile police said the BBVA Compass Bank on Hillcrest Road was robbed Thursday.
Officials identified the man as 53-year-old Terry Davison. They said he told bank workers he was armed with a gun and demanded money. He then fled the scene.
No one was injured.
A short time later, police said they received a call from someone in the Knollwood area. They say the caller said a suspicious man was asking to use the phone.
After the phone call to dispatch, police said officers patrolled the area and the “suspicious man” happened to be the suspect they were looking for in the bank robbery.
Cpl. Chris Levy said this is the type of community involvement they encourage.
“I think it’s great that someone saw something that they believe was suspicious. We ask people to do that all the time,” said Levy.
Not every tip leads to an arrest, but police believe if more people acted on their suspicion, more suspects would be in custody.
"These people had no idea that they were calling about a bank robber and this a violent felon so this is very important,” said Levy.
