MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - Mobile City Councilwoman Bess Rich says she'll ask the governor, as well as federal officials, for money to get warning sirens placed her district.

In a newsletter released to District 6, Rich says there are no sirens in her council district and thinks they're needed in an emergency.

She says she met with Emergency Management Director Ronnie Adair, and learned there are federal and state grants available to get money.

Rich acknowledged the purchase of weather radios and downloading apps are also options for those in the path of severe weather, “These are all good methods, however, an audible alert system for folks out and about, even for those citizens who come to visit in our district need the more traditional warning method in place as well,”

Rich said Mobile would have to compete against cities.

She says she'll be writing to the mayor, and state officials as well as congressman Jo Bonner and the state's two senators, to try to get money for the sirens.
