Curator's condition improving following shooting

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - A Mobile man shot multiple times in his front yard continues to improve, while police continue the hunt for whoever pulled the trigger.

Mobile police continue to look for clues in the shooting of Mobile art curator, Wayne McNeil. It happened just after midnight Thursday morning on Glenwood Street in midtown.

Neighbors who spoke to FOX10 News said the violence has to stop.

One woman said she heard the shots and knew something was wrong. She was too afraid to show her face on camera.

"I heard the first shot, and heard him hollering. They are shooting all the time in this neighborhood. And I heard another shot and I knew this was serious," said the woman.

Mobile Police don't believe McNeil knew the suspects.

Other Glenwood Street residents are baffled about why he was a target.

Neighbors said McNeil would just sit, swing and smoke in his front yard, and never bothered anyone.

Corporal Christopher Levy said it's still unknown what transpired in the moments leading up to the shooting.

"He comes home, listens to music, and not a lot of interaction with people around him. If there was any words between him and the suspects, we don't believe he heard it, because he was probably listening to music," said Levy.

FOX10 News checked with USA Medical Center and found out McNeil's condition has improved to fair, but he remains in the Intensive Care Unit.
