FAA: Brookley facility would close after sequestration

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - The Federal Aviation Administration said a round of across-the-board budget cuts, known as sequestration, could force the closing of the air traffic control facility at Brookley Field in Mobile.

The FAA put out a list of facilities that could be closed or have shifts eliminated to help reduce spending by about $600 million.

Brookley is on the list for facilities that could be closed. The overnight shift could be eliminated at the Pensacola air traffic control facility.

If sequestration occurs, the FAA said furloughs and facility shut downs would begin in April.

Federal officials have warned airline passengers could face flight delays because of sequestration.
