DA: no comment on Collar case, toxicology report

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - FOX10 News is continuing to follow the investigation into the death of University of South Alabama student Gil Collar.

The report was due in November 2012, but officials haven’t said if the results are in.

Mobile County District Attorney Ashley Rich said she can't comment on the case nor could she say if the report was in.

Collar was killed in an officer-involved shooting on the campus of the University of South Alabama in October 2012. The 18-year-old college freshman was shot and killed after he came to the campus police station and was acting erratically, according to USA officials.

Collar was unarmed and naked when he allegedly came at an officer who repeatedly commanded Collar to stop before fatally shooting him. Authorities involved in the investigation have said Collar was on LSD at the time of the incident.

Collar's parents have filed a wrongful death lawsuit over their son's death. The suit names the university along with members of the university police department including the officer that shot Collar.

Montgomery attorney Jere Beasley represents Collar's family. He declined to comment on the matter, stating it was against the family’s wishes. A representative of Beasley's firm, however, said they are still waiting on the toxicology report.

A Mobile County grand jury is set to meet soon. It is unknown if Collar's case will be presented to that grand jury or not.
