BAYOU LA BATRE, Ala. (WALA) - Davidson High School's HiQ academic team advanced to the 2013 championship match Thursday at Alba Middle School in Bayou La Batre.  It will join Baker and a team to be determined next week.

Thursday's semi-final match involved teams from Bryant, Davidson and Mary G. Montgomery High Schools, which finished the regular season second, fourth and sixth respectively.

Davidson had a 9 point lead at halftime, and despite a comeback by Bryant in the second half, managed to hold on for the victory.  The final score was Davidson 34, Bryant 26 and Mary G. Montgomery 13.

Baker, Davidson and a third team will meet in the 2013 Alabama HiQ Championship on Thursday, March 7 at 7:00 p.m. at the Renaissance Riverview Plaza Hotel in Mobile.  They are playing for a share in $4,500 in prize money provided by New Horizons Credit Union and the right to represent Alabama in the HiQ national championship, held by teleconference later this spring.

HiQ teams from McGill-Toolen Catholic, Murphy and St. Luke's will compete next week to determine the third and final team to advance.
