MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - Chris Sedig was driving on the Bayway Bridge, headed to his home in Saraland when he says he saw a white Mustang coming up from behind him.

The driver of that Mustang was Melissa Morris of Fairhope. Morris, 37, would soon be in the water below the bridge, standing on top of her car awaiting rescue on that Sunday afternoon.

Sedig said he was traveling behind a van that was moving slowly, so he decided to change lanes. When he did, he says the driver in the Mustang slammed on her brakes to avoid hitting the van.

When he looked in his car mirror, Sedig said he saw the Mustang hit the bridge's guard rail head-on and flip over into the water.

She pretty much fishtailed, hit the wall head-on. The momentum threw the back end of her car in the air and all the way around and she fell down right over the edge of the bridge,” Sedig said.

He said he was going about 75 mph and estimates Morris traveling around 85.

Sedig said, “The person behind the Mustang stopped, got out and looked over the side. It looked like she was screaming down.”

He said he felt flustered with how quickly the accident happened.

Morris sprained her ankle in the accident and was bumped and bruised, but she did not suffer any major injuries. She was transported to USA Medical Center for treatment and was released in the following days.

“I was really surprised she was okay to be honest with you. God must have been with her in that car,” said Sedig.
