BAYOU LA BATRE, Ala. (WALA) - Bayou La Batre police say 45-year-old Harvey Collier was under the influence when he hit a minivan head-on with his car.
"The driver was Harvey Collier and he was arrested for DUI and three counts of assault second," said Captain Darryl Wilson with Bayou La Batre Police.
Wilson said the assault charges stem from the fact that Collier's passenger and two passengers in the minivan had to be treated at the hospital.
"There were two juvenile passengers in the minivan that were transported to the hospital. The female passenger of the BMW was extracted from the vehicle by the fire department," Wilson said.
Collier is no stranger to the law. His arrests in Alabama date back more than 10 years and include at least two other DUI charges.
Wilson said Friday's incident could have ended tragically.
"It makes it worse, the timing of the accident because you have people that are getting off from work, school just let out, there were people all over the road," Wilson said.
Wilson said all three of the people injured in the accident have been released from the hospital.
