MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - On May 11, police confirmed the victim of the shooting on Duval Street, Jimmie Fore, died from his injuries.

Police have arrested  20-year-old Donnie Matthews in connection to the incident. They said his charges have now been upgraded from attempted murder to murder.

Officials say it happened around 5 p.m. Wednesday on Duval Street.

"We do know they were having some sort of dispute when Mr. Matthews  produced a handgun and shot him multiple times," said the Mobile Police Department Spokesman Cpl. Chris Levy.

Police have not released the name of the victim and said he was taken to USA Medical Center and listed in critical condition.

Levy said officers signed a warrant for Matthews arrest Thursday morning and several hours later, he turned himself into police headquarters.

Authorities said this case is a good example of how the community can help get a suspect behind bars.

"We went out we canvassed the area. We asked the community for some help, and they came together. They helped with the investigation and we were able to put a violent criminal in jail," said Levy.

Anyone with information should call the Mobile Police Department at  208-7211 , Crime Stoppers at  208-7000 , or text to 274637 and include the Keyword CRIME 411.
