MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - Carnival Cruise Lines had contacted Mobile Thursday morning about stopping in port temporarily. However, according to the company's website they spent another day at sea and will be back in New Orleans Friday.

A post by Carnival at 8:45 p.m. Thursday in the weather alerts states:

" The Port of New Orleans will reopen early tomorrow morning. Due to the time required to transit the Mississippi River, the ship will be alongside in the afternoon.  We’ll be busy saying good bye to our disembarking guests, so check in for your 3 day Fun Cruise @ Sea will now take place between 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Friday, August 31, 2012 at the Erato Street Cruise Terminal. "

Mobile Mayor Sam Jones said Thursday morning the city was ready to welcome the ship back, even temporarily.

"Mobile stands ready to assist New Orleans and Carnival in any way we can," Jones said. "This is a temporary birthing that I am certain if Mobile needed help during a storm, other cities would do the same."
