MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - FOX10 News spoke with Jere Beasley, the Montgomery-based attorney whose law firm is investigating the death of Gilbert Collar.

Tuesday, Beasley said Collar’s family is grieving and is still in shock over the incident. They have asked Beasley’s law firm to conduct an independent investigation into what happened.

Collar, a University of South Alabama freshman from Wetumpka, Ala., died after he was shot by a USA police officer on Saturday. University officials said the 18-year-old was naked and repeatedly charged the officer, disregarding repeated threats to stand down.

Beasley would not say whether he believes the officer committed any wrongdoing. He said the family will wait to decide on a course of action until their independent investigation is completed.

FOX10 News Reporter John Rogers is following the story and will have more later today at 4 p.m.
