DAPHNE, Ala. (WALA) - A Daphne couple hopes to find the Good Samaritans who pulled them from the water following a boating accident.
There were lots of boaters on the water at Fish River Sunday. It's a favorite boating spot for Diana Overstreet and her husband Lawrence LeGault. Last weekend, however, their outing came to a halt when their aluminum boat collided with another boat.
They say they're lucky to be alive, and they just want to thank the family that helped them.
"It was one of those times when you've got like three seconds to make a decision to get out of the way, or stay there not knowing which direction anybody's going," Overstreet said.
The impact threw Overstreet, her husband, and their son into the water.
"The first thing she asked, first thing, ‘Where's Chandler, my son?’ He was okay," LeGault said.
Overstreet suffered a deep gash on her leg.
She said the second boat disappeared initially, but the couple is grateful for another boat that came around the bend just moments after the accident.
"They were so good to us. They rescued us out of the water. We were stranded there. Got us to the dock, waited until EMS showed up to help us and stuff," she said
The other boat involved in the accident did return to the scene, but Overstreet says they were already out of the water. The owner of that boat said he was unable to maneuver his boat after the crash, because it was so badly damaged but that one person in his boat went in the water to attempt to help.
During the commotion, the Good Samaritan who helped the family left. Overstreet didn't get their names or the chance to thank them.
The only thing she has is the towel they gave her for her injured leg.
"They took this towel out of their boat and handed it to me. This what was wrapped around my leg that kept me from bleeding to death while I was laying in the river," she said.
"You can get me on Facebook, You can stay anonymous. We’d just like to meet you, hug you, and say thank you for saving my life," Overstreet said.
Alabama Marine Police are investigating the accident.
