Frederick St. surveys storm damage

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - One of the hardest hit areas in Mobile during severe storms and a tornado on Thursday, Dec. 20, was Frederick Street.

The section of the street where the tornado hit is only about two blocks long, but one house there was destroyed, and another lost its roof.

The Dansby family lost their entire home and Thursday, there were Red Cross volunteers on hand to help them.

On Friday, people stopped at what was left of their house on Frederick Street to offer help.

LENDING A HAND 

Asonia Smith was one of those people. 

She said, "I live in Crichton, and I realize it could have been me and my church New Welcome Missionary Baptist Church. Our job is to serve, so this was a good time for us to serve."

 Smith found what size clothes the Dansby's needed.

 John Dansby's niece stopped by and offered to let the couple live with her.

 The American Red Cross has already provided help to the Dansby's.

Voncile Dansby said, "They gave us a room for three nights, and gave us one of those cards, so we can get us some groceries and a couple of outfits."

And Voncile Dansby's sister said she would go to the food stamp office to try to get help there.
