MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - In honor of Veterans Day on Sunday, patriotic music performed by the Mobile Symphony Orchestra filled the air at Medal of Honor park in west Mobile.
The free concert was at the new bicentennial pavilion where Mobile County Commissioner Connie Hudson christened the facility.
"I think its going to bring west Mobile together, I appreciate the effort that it took to get this," said John Burns.
The event is part of a year-long bicentennial celebration organized by the Mobile County Commission and those in attendance said it will be a memorable Veterans Day.
"It's just important we remember all those that served all those that still serve and all those that never came home. I just came out to hear the salute to America and hope people really remember what this is about," said United States Marine Christine McCollum.
For Sarah Kelso who had several family members serve in the military, the concert brought tears to her eyes. She said seeing everyone come together makes her happy and honoring veterans with others brings her joy.
McCollum said, "It's not just a free concert, it's about something."
