MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - The slogan says "Ride the Wave," and that is exactly what many Mobile residents are choosing to do with prices soaring at the pump.
The bus fares start at $1.25 and under, which is a welcome alternative to driving for many commuters.
"I ride it every day. They get me everywhere I need to go, and it's less expensive than riding in a car. As high as gas is now," said Wave rider Angelia McVay.
"It's cheaper, less on gas, and hey I love it," added Jeff Fitzpatrick.
Officials at The Wave said their records also show an increase in the number of riders.
"We're showing from February to March, a five to six percent increase in just one month, so we anticipate that going up," said Director of Marketing Paula Dicks.
Despite the rise in gas prices, officials said they don't plan on increasing fares, at least for now.
"I don't know what the future holds for us, because as you pointed out, gas prices affect us too. But we'll just keep providing the good service that we think we provide right now," said Dicks.
