MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - Math is a subject some don't enjoy, and others find downright scary. At George Hall Elementary, however, math is being taught a different way by Amy Lowe.

"She lets us play games, and makes math fun," said student Larone Williams.

"She teaches us fun methods. She's really the best," said student Kayla Mitchell.

Mitchell even said her teacher can be downright silly, and being silly is very much getting the job done.

The school was named number one in the country for elementary mathematics by Intel Corporation.  The company said the school teaches real-world lessons by inviting community members and parents into the classroom. Lowe said it's not about teaching page by page.

"Not so much focused on the right or wrong answer but the process on how you got to that answer because really in the real world isn't that what it's all about," said Lowe.

The school will receive $10,000 in cash and $30,000 worth of products and technology. Lowe said she can't wait for the students to see what is in store for them.

"We're going to use the money for some field trips. We don't have a lot of money locally and from our district and state so we'd love to provide some trips to like the Air and Space Center in Huntsville," Lowe said.

Intel presented elementary, middle, and high school honors in both math and science to schools all around the country.

The school applied for the award a couple of years ago and was a finalist then.
