Fears of changes to 2nd amendment prompt many to attend gun show

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) -

A regular event at the ABBA Shrine Temple attracted an irregular turnout by hundreds who were concerned about possible changes in the U.S. Constitution.

There was plenty of discussion about the Second Amendment among several hundred people waiting to get into a gun and knife show in Mobile on Saturday.

Frank Williams said, "I came here to buy as many guns and as many bullets as I can get, because [President] Obama is taking rights away from us: Second Amendment."

Williams and dozens of others waited in long lines to get into the Abba Shriners’ Gun and Knife Show at the ABBA Shrine Temple. The parking area was so crowded people parked on nearby streets.

Some people had notes on their guns advertising they were for sale, along with some information about them.

Organizers didn't allow the news media inside.

Joe Kulakowski of Mobile said he's never seen a crowd like this at a gun show.

He said, "I think everybody is wanting to make sure that their Second Amendment right is exercised, and they want to take that opportunity to exercise it."

When asked if there was fear that might not be happening in the future, Kulakowski said, "I think it doesn't take a rocket scientist to connect the dots on that."

Vice President Joe Biden headed up a task force in Washington to curb gun violence. He's expected to offer the task force's recommendation to President Obama on Tuesday.

Carmen Lilly of Mobile said, when asked if she feared the right to have guns would be taken away, "Yeah, we are. It seems like that's what they're heading for in Washington, and I think I feel the same way the NRA does, that it's less about protecting our children and more about attacking the Second Amendment."

As for the right to own guns actually being taken away, Jesse Gregson of Bay Minette said, "We're all going to have guns. If you take the guns away from the good people, how they're going to protect themselves? No way. America won't stand for it."

"Come on down here and try to take our guns," added Frank Williams.
