Pearl Haskew elementary tuberculosis tests negative

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - The Mobile County Health Department said on Monday testing of more than 500 Pearl Haskew Elementary students and teachers found no new cases of tuberculosis.

The tests were administered in response to the discovery that a teacher at the school was carrying the lung infection in January.

Officials said more than 500 people at the school took the skin tests. Parents received letters once the results for individual students were available.

Health department officials told FOX10 News on Monday, February 4 the letters stated the tests were conclusive.

A school spokes person said "the overall results" announced on Monday, would be out this week.

The Health Department said follow-up testing is planned for about three months from February.
