Police arrest woman for leaving scene of deadly accident

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - Mobile Police said the driver in a hit-and-run accident that left one woman dead turned herself in to authorities on Sunday.

Danesha Christian, 24, was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of an accident with injuries.

The accident happened a little after 6 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 24, near Government and Catherine streets. A male and female pedestrian were struck by a vehicle, and police found them lying in the roadway.

Authorities said one of the victims, 23-year-old Ashley Avis, died at USA Medical Center. The male victim was being treated for injuries and was expected to recover.

MPD said traffic homicide detectives will continue to investigate and have asked anyone with information to call MPD at (251) 208-7211.
