Home invason victim relives horror

EIGHT MILE, Ala. (WALA) - Margaret Fairchild, who was shot during a home invasion robbery in Eight Mile, spoke to FOX10 about the horrifying incident.

As of Tuesday, Nov. 27, she was still at USA Medical Center after she was shot in the abdomen with a high-powered rifle.

Fairchild said her husband David Reed answered the door of their Eight Mile home early Sunday morning, when two armed men wearing masks forced their way in.

“One had a handgun and put it up to my husband’s head,” said Fairchild. “The other one had a rifle. He was trying to make it shoot, the rifle.”

Although two suspects entered the home, the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office has charged four teens with the crime.

Anthony Olender, 18, turned himself in to sheriff’s deputies Tuesday Nov. 27, and deputies said they believe he is the shooter.

Eirc Weaver, 18, also turned himself in to the sheriff’s office Nov. 27.

Brandon Davis and Dominick Moore, who are both 18-years-old as well, were arrested and charged with first-degree burglary. Their role in the home invasion is unclear at this point.

Investigators continued to question the suspects as of 6 p.m. Tuesday night.

Fairchild said what disturbs her most is that her 11-year-old granddaughter also witnessed the crime.

“What if my grand baby would have been in that line of fire, you know?” said Fairchild. “The good lord is just watching out for us from up above.”

After the two men entered the home, Fairchild said one of the gunman tussled with Reed. She said she grabbed a BB gun to scare the second gunman away. Several shots were fired in the home, however, only one struck Fairchild.

Her husband and grandchild were unharmed.

Fairchild said she believes the teens were after rent money that she collects from tenants of the mobile home property.

Despite a lengthy arrest history involving drugs and possession, Fairchild and her family claim the incident was not drug related.

The family also said at least one of the suspects are kin to Fairchild.
