MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - More than four months after a parent filed a complaint against Charles Lewis, Jr., the Mobile Police Department and DHR have started an investigation. The school system reported the alleged incident to DHR and police just recently.
During a school board meeting Tuesday night, Superintendent Dr. Roy Nichols said the alleged indecent exposure was all an accident, and there was nothing sexual in nature intended by Lewis. Therefore, it did not meet the requirements to file a report.
FOX10 asked Dr. Nichols if Lewis was involved in the systems internal investigation.
"He was not questioned. Remember the purpose was to determine who knew what, when, and what they they did about it. So no I didn't need to talk with the teacher," Nichols said.
Dr. Nichols also said the boy who accused Lewis of exposing himself to him inside his science classroom was not questioned in their investigation, either.
The superintendent released a summary of the internal investigation which gives a chronological report on how the allegation was handled by the school system. Dr. Nichols said he needs to come with a way to keep track of developing trends in a more efficient way. He also said the Causey allegation probably should have been reported.
"Rumors and anonymous complaints although often times fictitious may contain a grain of truth and should not be automatically dismissed," the report said.
