SEMMES, Ala. (WALA) - Mobile County officials said they are combing through text and phone records, social media accounts and even surveillance cameras throughout Semmes as part of their investigation into alleged sexual misconduct between a Mary G. Montgomery teacher and student.
News of a possible ongoing relationship between the female teacher and her 14-year-old male student spread like wildfire across the city.
On Monday, February 18, deputies questioned students and faculty members after a counselor alerted authorities of the accusations.
When investigators arrived, however, they said the teacher in question had already been sent home by school administrators, which is uncommon in similar investigations.
Authorities said they would have liked to question the teacher on the spot and ask to review any possible digital communications.
FOX10 took the concerns to Mobile County School officials who only referred to a previous statement.
“She (the teacher) is on administrative leave. Since it is a personnel matter, I cannot discuss it,” said Nancy Pierce, spokesperson for the Mobile County Public School System.
FOX10 has not released the teacher’s name, as no charges have been filed.
Deputies said they will continue talking to potential witnesses and combing through digital data.
