Teen told parents of alleged misconduct, says MCSO

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - On Wednesday, February 20, the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office searched the home of the Mary G. Montgomery teacher who allegedly had inappropriate sexual relations with a 14-year-old student.

According to the Lt. Paul Burch with with Mobile County Sheriff's Office, the alleged sexual misconduct between the female teacher and student was discovered after the 14-year-old told his parents.

"He did divulge some information to his parents and brought forth the case," Burch said.

Officials said the teacher’s husband was present at the time of the search.

“There are a number of things looked for in those types of cases.  I don't want to get into specific evidence, but obviously we're looking for items to corroborate the allegations," Lt. Burch said.

Burch said he hasn't been in contact with the teacher, who was not home during the search.

Burch said should an arrest be made, a host of charges could follow because the alleged sexual misconduct occurred multiple times.

Burch would not say where the alleged sexual encounters took place.

"We are gathering additional evidence every day. We're interviewing additional potential witnesses.  As far as an arrest, once our reports are complete and the investigation is concluded, we'll consult with the district attorney’s office. And at that time, we'll determine when an arrest is made," he said.

Burch said he expects the sheriff’s office will have most, or even all, of its investigation completed by Thursday.

The teacher was placed on administrative leave Monday by the Mobile County Public School System after allegations surfaced.

According to those familiar with the investigation, the accused teacher has hired an attorney.

FOX10 News has learned the identity of the teacher in question, but is not releasing her name because no charges have been filed.
