MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - Volunteer teams are hitting the streets the week of April 21 – 28 to clean up Mobile one neighborhood at a time during the Keep Mobile Beautiful Great American Cleanup.
During the week, hundreds of volunteers from across the City of Mobile will lend a hand to spruce up their parks, neighborhoods and rivers for the Great American Cleanup which is the nation’s largest organized annual cleanup, beautification and community improvement program.
Keep Mobile Beautiful is calling on schools, churches, community groups, organizations, businesses and volunteers to cleanup their neighborhoods. To help make this national initiative a success, Keep Mobile Beautiful is providing each group with cleanup supplies including GLAD trash bags, litter grabbers, gloves and safety vests. All you have to do is identify a location that is littered and call on friends or neighbors to help.
This year’s Great American Cleanup will take place in all seven city council districts to get Mobile cleaned up one neighborhood at a time. In addition to the district cleanups, Mobile’s Great American Cleanup will focus its efforts on cleaning up littered portions of the Dog River Watershed on Saturday, April 28, 2012 from 8 a.m. – 12 p.m. at Springdale Mall.
It is not too late to get involved and form a team! Contact Keep Mobile Beautiful at 208-6029 to register a team and reserve your cleanup kit.
Join Keep Mobile Beautiful, Envision Coastal Alabama, the Mobile Bay National Estuary Program, Partners for Environmental Progress (PEP), Associated General Contractors (AGC), HandsOn South Alabama, Mobile Gas, Holcim and hundreds of volunteers as they work together for a cleaner, greener Mobile. A community Cleanup Celebration will be held on Saturday, April 28, 2012 at Springdale Mall next to Burlington Coat Factory.
