MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - A big event is coming up in Mobile’s Lyons Park Labor Day weekend, and it's one that’s designed for everyone.

You’re invited to take part in the Steady Pace 5K. Thaddeus Garrett is the organizer of the event.

He explains, "The Steady Pace 5k is an event for all to be involved. It's an event that's going to get us out, get us moving — young and old — everybody in the community can come out and take part in the run the walk or the Health Fair here on September 1."

This event is being called a signature event, as organizers say it's the first of its kind in our area. Along with a 5K walk and run, folks who come out will also learn about different ways to be healthy and active.

"We've partnered with the NFL Fuel Up To Play 60 program. And, that's a program that targets kids to get out and get active,” Garrett said. “So, this is all about showing people in the community how to be active outside of the traditional football and baseball.”

He said it is also walking, hiking and running in your back yard.

“We want people to understand that being healthy and living a healthy fit life is possible," he added.

The event is put on by the City of Mobile and organizers are working with a number of partners in the fight against obesity.
