MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - A local musician is laid to rest Thursday. Family and friends paid respects to Nicholas Thor Markow. He was killed in a crash early Saturday morning as he was coming home from a party with his girlfriend.

Loved ones consoled each other with warm embraces outside of Pine Crest Funeral Home. They shared memories of Nicholas Markow. The lead singer and guitarist left a void in many hearts.

The 26-year-old was killed on Dawes Lake Road, as he and his girlfriend were coming home from a party.

"The vehicle was entering into a curve and for some apparent reason, traveled off the roadway, stuck a curb and left the roadway and collided with a sign and a utility pole," Alabama State Trooper Greg Eubanks said.

Neither was wearing a seat belt. Markow was dead on the scene, his girlfriend, Jennifer Morgan Fram, suffered a fractured neck.

"I wish it was me that was gone and not him. I’m emotionally worse than physically, even though the physical pain is excruciating and unbearable," Fram said.

Fram returned to the accident scene trying to get a grip on what happened.

“I remember nothing. We were both drinking. I feel guilty. I blame myself for it, and it’s something I’ll carry with me for the rest of my life," Fram said.

Markow's death is something many are still coping with. The pole reads 'RIP Nick Markow,' and 'Forever loved and missed.' Loved ones have placed flowers and trinkets at the curve where the accident happened and made a memorial in his honor.

Fram said she's still in shock, but is soothing her grief with faith.

"I’m praying for his family. I want them to know that God will get us through it," she said.

Alabama State Troopers are still investigating the accident and are waiting for toxicology results.
