MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - Covenant Christian School teamed with a North Carolina company to help get food to children facing malnutrition in  third-world countries.

Hundreds of students, in grades one through eight, helped pack meals designed for nutrition by dietitians with General Mills Foods to send to Jamaica on Friday. Officials said students packed over 10,000 meals.

Angela Russ said working with the company, Feed the Need, feels great because it makes a difference.

"It's actually really fun and you have a really good feeling inside cause you know that you did something for a really good cause," Russ said.

The event is a new concept and Covenant Christian is one of the first schools nationwide to take part in it, according to Don Carmichael, who helped organize it.

He said, "Covenant Christian is... only the third school in the entire United States to be able to do this. We are hoping this will start a new trend for schools around the country in terms of doing something more meaningful and purposeful with their fundraising."
