MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - Friends and colleagues are mourning the loss of a local yoga instructor who was killed along with a friend in a traffic accident in Las Vegas over the weekend.

Dana Goudie and Scott Buchard were Las Vegas to attend a family wedding. There, they were hit by a car crossing Las Vegas Blvd. Las Vegas police said they were crossing at a non-designated crossing area.

Goudie co-founded the Kula Yoga Community as a way to make yoga available to everyone through pay-as-you-go classes. That was two years ago.

Today, there are several Kula locations in Mobile and Baldwin Counties. Kenneth Jackson was in one of Goudie's classes last week, just before she left for vacation.

"It was class like normal. She was getting ready to go to Las Vegas, and she was really excited about that," Jackson said.

Jackson was stunned when he learned of the accident.

He was enrolled in Goudie's teacher's training course at the Conscious Mile Center in Mobile. Jackson said she gave him the inspiration to teach.

"Dana was just a very, very sweet spirit. She was always very, very welcoming. She never really met a stranger," he said.

Jackie Johnson teaches yoga at the YMCA in Mobile.

She heard about the accident over the weekend, but it wasn't until the victims names were released that realized the area had lost a gifted yogi.

"The Yoga community, along with her friends and her students are definitely mourning her death today, because she was very passionate about what she did, and her passion carried over into her classes," Johnson said.

Those who knew Goudie say the legacy she helped build will continue.
