MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - Former Spring Hill College President, Rev. Gregory Lucey, S.J. will return to Mobile in 2013 to assume the newly-created role of Chancellor.

Current President, Rev. Richard Salmi, S.J. said Fr. Lucey will be involved in promoting the Jesuit identity and mission of the College, including Ignatian spirituality, as well as be engaged in advancement work.  When asked if that would involve fundraising for Spring Hill, Fr. Salmi said he saw it more as "friend-raising" by maintaining and nurturing relationships, and helping "rekindle" relationships with friends in Mobile.

Fr. Lucey turns 80 in January.  He was President of Spring Hill College from 1997-2009.

Currently the President of the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities in Washington, D.C., Fr. Lucey is expected to return to Spring Hill in August, 2013.  He will report directly to Fr. Salmi.
