BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala. (WALA) - Family and friends are mourning the loss of 24-year-old Allen Cade Davis after he died in what appears to be a 'freak accident.'

Baldwin County Coroner Stan Vinson said the man was shot with a crossbow Saturday, Jan. 19.

Orange Beach Mayor Tony Kennon said it happened during a hunting accident along a road near Barber Marina in South Baldwin County.

It is believed that a loaded crossbow in the back seat of Davis' vehicle accidentally went off. Coroner Vinson said the arrow went through his back and pierced his chest.

Friends told FOX10 Davis had just been accepted to the military and was a very loving and outgoing young man.

“You know, I just want to give him a big hug and just have one more good memory and one more good smile and let him know I love him,” said longtime friend Michael Gibney. “You can't ever say it again now other than looking up.”

Jubilee Baptist Church Pastor Paul Mathews said he has known Cade and his family for nearly 12 years through the church in Daphne.

He said the family is very devout and has played an important role in their congregation.

Mathews told FOX10 he has been speaking with the family, who is trying to cope with such a loss.

“Obviously their world has been shaken to the core and they're hurting really really badly right now,” said Pastor Mathews. “Just the thought of this young man in an accident like this, it just, it just broke my heart and obviously his family’s hearts and our church family has suffered.”

Davis' wake will be held Tuesday at Jubilee Baptist Church from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The funeral will take place Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Jubilee Baptist Church, followed by the burial at Silver Hill.
