Marshals, MPD make terror arrest

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - U.S. Marshals and Mobile police apprehend a wanted man on January 31 in midtown Mobile after a more than four hour standoff.

Now, residents in one midtown home said they’re left with broken windows and a lot of cleaning to do.

"I got a house I can't stand because of the tear gas, fire where the canisters landed. (They) went through seven windows," said one resident.

Marshals were looking for Rodney Waldrop.

"Rodney Waldrop, who is a subject wanted by MPD was found by the U.S. Marshals to be in a residence on Hyland Avenue. When the marshals went to take him into custody, he barricaded himself inside the home and refused to be arrested," said Ashley Rains with Mobile police.

In fact, the standoff lasted more than four hours. Police eventually used tear gas to force Waldrop from the house.

Police said Waldrop was wanted by police for an incident that happened January 30 involving his ex-girlfriend.

"Mr. Waldrop had made threats against his ex-girlfriend and her child. He also went to the residence where she was staying and set a vehicle on fire," Rains said.

Marshals were called to assist Mobile police in finding Waldrop, and in just two days, they tracked him down.

Why did he choose the home on Hyland Avenue?

"He had nowhere else to go because we're not that good of friends. So obviously, he ran out of friends," said the resident.

Waldrop is charged with arson, criminal tampering, terroristic threats, aggravated stalking, and property damage.

We looked Waldrop up on the Mobile County jail log and his arrest record goes back to 1997, with charges of domestic violence, assault, and resisting arrest.
