MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - Mobile Mayor Sam Jones said officials were never asked if the city could accommodate distraught passengers aboard Carnival's Triumph.
The cruise ship is currently being towed to the Port City after an engine room fire Sunday, February 10.
The original plan had the ship going to Progreso, Mexico after the fire. due to sea conditions, however, the port was changed to Mobile.
The ship is currently running on backup generators. Passengers are complaining of deplorable conditions including problems with sewage on the ship.
Reports are that Carnival will bus the passengers to New Orleans with some possibly even going back to Texas, where the ship left from.
Jones said city officials contacted Carnival about accommodations for the passengers but were told plans had already been made.
The ship is expected in Mobile Bay after 6 p.m.
