MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) -  Mobile Mayor Sam Jones releases the highly anticipated city budget just before 5 p.m. Friday.

The city’s budget has been a topic of debate with officials for months. Jones has projected a near $29 million shortfall and has tossed around the idea of reinstating a penny sales tax.

Multiple committees have been organized to offer suggestions and analyze the situation.

John Williams said he would not approve the mayor's proposed budget.

"My answer to the mayors proposed budget is no. No to the proposed increase in the sales tax. And I believe this is unfortunate, and the mayor chose to take this route. I don't think it's the councils responsibility to make up for flaws in his projection in this case he is projecting a new revenue stream in the budget a one cent sales tax," said Williams.
